Profiles are a way to run several instances of IceChat 9 simultaneously, or to keep different set of options for any other reason.

IceChat 9 stores its settings (such as the list of servers to connect to) in the Data Folder.

If you wish to keep separate settings for each user on the system, or just for any other reason, you will need a separate profile for each, and this is done by setting a separate Data Folder per profile.

Creating Profiles

In order to create a new profile, create a new folder by the name and in the location you wish.
For the purpose of this description, let's assume that two profiles are required, one for work-related reasons and another for pastime, and that a single data location is created here: C:\Data\IceChatProfiles

Create a new folder for each profile:

  • C:\Data\IceChatProfiles\work
  • C:\Data\IceChatProfiles\pastime

Create two windows shortcuts to IceChat 9, and name each accordingly.

Open the properties of the shortcut and add at the end of the target text -profile followed by the path to the profile folder.

For the work-related profile, the result will look similar to: "C:\Program Files\IceChat9" -profile "C:\Data\IceChatProfiles\work"

If you want to further distinguish the profiles, you can set each one with a specific System Tray icon text and/ or specific System Tray icon (32x32).
