Build from source code
IceChat 9 is an open source program, which means the source code is available to anyone.
The source code is updated more often then the full installs/updates and is located at https://github.com/icechat/IceChat
Download the latest source code from the page, by clicking on the Download Zip button.
Unzip the file into any folder, for example a dedicated "C:\IceChatBuild". It is best not to use the %CommonProgramFiles%, because of permissions issues.
There are several build options in the extracted root folder.
- BuildIceChat.cmd
- which uses .NET 3.5
- BuildIceChat-x86.cmd
- which uses .NET 3.5 and a specific project for x86 computers.
- BuildIceChat.4.0.cmd
- which uses .NET 4.5
- BuildIceChat.4.0-x86.cmd
- which uses .NET 4.5 and a specific project for x86 computers.
If you are not sure which version to choose, use the first in the above list,
BuildIceChat.cmd.
You can either double click on the BuildIceChat.cmd file or open a command line window (cmd.exe) and run the BuildIceChat.cmd at the prompt.
You will get at the end of the process the following lines:
0 Error(s) Time Elapsed 00:00:00.35 .\bin\Debug\IceChat2009.exe 1 File(s) copied .\bin\Debug\IPluginIceChat.dll 1 File(s) copied .\bin\Debug\IRCConnection.dll 1 File(s) copied .\bin\Debug\IThemeIceChat.dll 1 File(s) copied IceChat files copied to the IceChatBuild folder Press any key to continue . . .
A new folder is created called IceChatBuild, and once the batch file has completed, 5 files will be placed in this folder.
Copy these 5 files into your IceChat installation folder, or place them anywhere else you want.
To see all the changes from build to build, read the changelog.txt file in the source code.
If the BuildIceChat.cmd returns errors, try instead to run the newer Add IceChatBuild.4.0.cmd which was specifically created for users who have errors with IceChatBuild.cmd.
